THE NATIONAL "SLIDE & SMILE"
|
|
|
|
Have you ever taken note of the smiles that appear on Black folks' faces when
the music for "The Mississippi Cha Cha Slide" (AKA "The Stomp") plays for the first time at any social gathering? No matter how empty the dance floor has been up
to that point, a kind of "magic" occurs". Smiles appear on faces all over the room as people, young and old, rush to the dance floor.
Let's synchronize this and have some fun.
On Saturday, June 20th of this year, as has been the tradition for many years, Black folks will be gathered all over the nation for Juneteenth festivities and family reunions. At exactly 3:00 P.M. CST
(4:00 P.M. EST, 2:00 P.M. MST, and 1:00 P.M. PST), let's all stop wherever and whatever we're doing, and do "The Mississippi

Cha Cha Slide" (AKA "The Stomp"). Think of it, Black folks smiling and dancing
in, and on, parking lots, parks, picnic grounds, sidewalks and porches across the nation.
"What about the music", you ask. That's easy. This is a "us" thing. So let's start requesting now that R & B, Hip-Hop, and "soul" radio
stations and other music broadcasters play "The Mississippi Cha Cha Slide" at the designated time. We'll leave coordination of the music up to them. Then we just "pump up the volume" all over the country.
Imagine it. President Obama, the First Lady, their daughters and the Cabinent doing "The Slide" in the Rose Garden at the White House while the Congressional Black Caucus dances in front of the Capitol Building,
while thousands dance in South Cental Los Angeles, Harlem, the South Side Chicago and elsewhere around the country. Joined by Americans of all colors and backgrounds, "dancin' in the streets" ... all smiling.
What do you think? Can we pull it off? Like so many other things in life, all it would take is the decision to make it happen. Plan events around it in your city or town if you like. All are welcome to join in; that is a diverse and equal America.
Of course, we would expect you to upload pictures of the smiling faces to EBONYSMILES.com.
